Career Conversations – How do I Translate my Academic Experience for a Non-Academic CV

June 22, 2027 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Career Conversations is a monthly online lunchtime panel series delivered by Manchester Met, University of Manchester and University of Salford as part of the Greater Manchester Researcher Development Partnership (GMResDev).

The series invites panellists who are former doctoral students/ECRs and now work in a variety of roles and sectors beyond academic research to talk about how they used their researcher skills and experience to get their current role, and how their research background has helped them in their career.

This months theme is ‘How do I Translate my Academic Experience for a Non-Academic CV’.

In this session, Dr Sarah Ashworth, will be sharing what she has learnt over 20 years supporting researchers write their CVs. Together we will look at common mistakes and address some of the challenges of translating your academic experience for a different employment market. If you want to bring along your CV you can have a go at applying some of the tips and re-write it in-session!
