GMResDev is a vibrant community of practice for Researcher Developers and all those who support the career and professional development of researchers across Greater Manchester and beyond.
Founded through a collaborative partnership between the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and the University of Salford in 2023, GMResDev brings together expertise, experience, and enthusiasm to broaden the supportive and innovative environment for researcher development.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create an encouraging and collaborative space in the heart of Greater Manchester for the career and professional development of Early Career Researchers within and beyond academia.
Recognition – Vitae Impact, Culture and Engagement Awards, 2026
The Greater Manchester Researcher Development Partnership was shorlisted by Vitae at the ICE awards, for Research Culture Impact through Researcher Development, for its innovative cross-institutional approach to researcher development. The collaboration was recognised for creating development opportunities, mentoring programmes, conferences, buddy schemes and networking activities that strengthen community, collaboration and researcher support across the Greater Manchester region.
Career Conversations
An online panel series featuring speakers who are former PGRs/ECRs now working in diverse roles and sectors beyond academic research. These sessions offer insights into career pathways and help broaden perspectives on researcher careers.

ECR Peer Mentoring Scheme
The GMResDev Buddy Scheme is a cross-institutional initiative, launched at the Research staff conference 2025. It is designed to help postdocs and early career researchers build meaningful connections across Greater Manchester. Applications for 2026/27 will be opening in early winter so watch this space!
UoM Research Staff Conference
The UoM Research Staff Conference is a free annual event dedicated to supporting the career development for research staff at UoM, also open to research staff at Mcr Met and Salford . The conference offers a dynamic programme of workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities designed to inspire, inform, and empower research staff at all career stages.
